Retail electricity providers (REPs) are regulated by the Public Utilities Commission and sell the same product. When choosing a provider, focus on the contract energy rate and length of contract. We recommend fixed rate contracts, avoiding tiered plans or plans offering free usage periods. Transmission and delivery charges are regulated by the utility and not subject to the market.
